Show Us Your Life- FASHION TIPS
I have really enjoyed doing the SHOW US YOUR LIFE at Kelly's Korner, so I am now a second time participant...
I have just completed by first three weeks of teaching, and I feel that being a school teacher I need to dress appropriate, professional, and look nice. Within my education career, I have been told multiple times that students look up to you and respect you if you dress and act professional, and they REALLY do. Teachers need to stand OUT and not just blend in with the students. The district in which I work in allows their teachers to wear jeans ONLY on Fridays. I believe that is a FAIR and professional requirement. Some teachers take advantage of this Denim on Friday's and wear slobby hoodies or raggedy t-shirts. We have been told by our building administration that if we wear jeans on Fridays, we MUST dress them up. I am HUGE supporter in looking nice and professional at school. Here is my FIRST day photo...
I also am LOVING scarfs this season. I began collecting several scarfs last season...this may seem ridiculous but I wear one almost everyday!
I occasionally wear heals to school. I have learned that if I know that I will be on my FEET all day, NOT to wear them, if not I go for it when I can! I have always wanted to be 6 foot, don't get me wrong I AM 5'10 but have always wanted to be 6 foot. With those heals on, I AM 6 FOOT!!
I am also a fan of flats! I love wearing a cute pair to school and just out and about...
My Home Away from HOME
This is the READ picture Josh got me for Christmas...and the filing cabinet from my Grandparents!
My sweet Mama made this paisley curtain for my room, too!!
My "area"!!!
Mrs. Hamby, that's ME! This where I put the NEWS that's occurring in our school as well as our classroom, I am also sporting some nice artwork that one of my 7th grade students made me...see they ARE still sweet at 12 and 13!! Snowflakes dangling from the ceiling!

Weekend Recap
Josh went to Alabama to hunt red deer. He left Wednesday and will return this evening. Friday after school I ran to Wal-Mart and picked up a few groceries, a cake for my grandfather's 80th birthday, and some cute Valentines decorations for my classroom. I then went to my parents house and visited with them for awhile then went home and had two HUGE bowls of Trix cereal for dinner...mmmm!! I loved it!
And began the dreadful, Teacher Work Sample. This is a 50 page graduation requirement for Elementary Education majors at Missouri State University. You come up with a subject and topic, mine is reading, we will be reading Nate the Great, San Francisco Detective. It is a five day lesson, I will be doing a pre-test, teach the five lessons, and then do a post test. This is an accreditation requirement. A team of professionals will grade our Teacher Work Samples. I feel like I have a good start on mine. I will definitely be ready for MAY 15th to get here when I get finished with the TWS. Wish me luck!! :)
I called it a night pretty early, 8:00 p.m. I LOVE going to bed early. I got up on Saturday morning around 9:30 and began working around our home. I cleaned, did laundry, and ironed. I then went to my parents and did my sweet Mothers laundry (she was thrilled)!! I then took a two hour afternoon nap and caught up on my Oprah DVR's. I had pizza for supper and worked a little more on my TWS. I then watched my Biggest Loser recording from Tuesday. I am really getting into this seasons Biggest Loser. I was "for" the RED team, but after Tuesday night, I am not so sure if I care for them anymore. I like the PINK team too!! I then read more in my Ron Clark's Essential 55 book. This is a great book for educators. I have learned a lot of great classroom strategies from Ron! I called it a night early, once again!
Sunday, I am working at the Pharmacy. I work every other week here and LOVE it! I have worked for Bradford Pharm. for 7 years! I got a call this morning that our neighbor, dear friend, and like a grandfather to me passed away early this morning. He was 93 years old and was in the hospital for double pneumonia. I am devastated and I definitely know that his wife is too. I pray that she heals and finds comport that he is no longer suffering and is with the Lord. Please pray for this special family!! This evening we are celebrating my grandfathers 80th birthday at Coltons.
It's been a great relaxing weekend, but I look forward to Josh coming home. Although, the death of my dear neighbor has been hard for me and my family. Please pray for the Hooker family.

Show Us Your Town--Where Do You Shop?
We do have a JCPenney, Stage, a shoe store, and a few home décor stores. I especially LOVE to shop at; At Home Market. At Home Market has a lot of great gift items, Yellow Box shoes, Vera Bradley, dishes, etc. Vera Bradley is definitely my weakness. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Josh decked me out with VB for Christmas. My entire classroom is VB!!! Josh and I also registered at At Home Market and got a lot of great gifts from there store.
Santa even knew how much I LOVED Vera Bradley!!
My new VB Hipster, from Josh's parents
One of my all time favorite places to shop is, GAP. I am a pretty tall gal, and finding jeans when I was a youngster, and still today is extremely difficult. My mother and I would drive to Springfield (about two hours north of WP) and get jeans. That was the ONLY place that I could find jeans long enough. I love their clothes. They last FOREVER, and look nice for years! I am still wearing GAP clothes in which I bought years ago.
My favorite clothing store these days is; Banana Republic. I can find great, dressy and classy clothes in which I LOVE at BR. In Branson, MO, they have a BR Outlet store. I always find great things for great prices at Banana Republic when I shop in Branson.

My First Day Teaching
This cold January morning, started off real early. I went bed early last night (around 8) and was wide awake at 4:30 am. I talked myself into staying in bed until 5:00 am. At 5 I got up took a shower, got dressed, had a wonderful breakfast (peach oatmeal, apple sauce, and cranberry juice…mmm) and then I was off to one-on-one tutor a young boy that I have been working with since October. I met Logan at 7:00 at a local elementary school, four miles from our home. I was so happy to see him! I missed the little guy! We worked on spelling and he did so well! It was a perfect start to a perfect day!
I then travelled back home and to see my husband! (He took these fine photos that I am sharing with you!) He wanted to wish me away on my first day! How sweet of him! I travelled on into town and was in my classroom by 8:45ish!
My day really doesn’t begin until 11:00 am. I got to school early this morning to make sure everything was ready to go for the day! I graded some work that my students completed yesterday with the substitute, entered grades into my grade book, planned some lessons for later this week, and then it was TIME!! My nervous jitters were getting to me!
My first class of the day: I was SUPER nervous at first, I am sure they could sense that at first, but I got relaxed after the first five minutes or so. Everything went great! The kids are bright and their enthusiasm shows me that they are ready to learn! With each class I went over classroom expectations and procedures. I had students create a journal. We will be doing a lot of journal writing, daily we will use our journals. They enjoyed creating these journals. I then have two CORE classes: They are only with me for 25 minutes each day! It’s going to be a BUSY 25 minutes, but hopefully productive as well! The following hour I have a RED/WHITE rotating class. I only have each class every other day. It’s a small class, but they are hard working kids! Sixth Hour: I have my planning period this hour of the day. I met with my Student Teaching supervisor and got some things lined out today! She is such a nice and helpful lady! The last hour of the day was super! It’s great to know that I have a great group at the end of the day! They are fifth graders, I feel like I have more experience with the younger ones. They were all so happy to be there and I was happy too!
I am anxious for tomorrow! I cannot wait to spend each day working with each one of these kids! It was a FANTASTIC first day and I look forward to many more GREAT days!!

BRRRRR!!!
I then came on home and put on some of my favorite flannel PJ’s (Trying to stay warm) and brewed myself a warm pot of Starbucks Breakfast Blend! Mmm! I am planning on snuggling up to my computer and catching up with the BLOG world this afternoon! Maybe slipping in a cat nap!
Believe it or not, I did venture back outdoors to take a few pictures. I realized I hadn’t taken any “Winter Snow” photos. Just call me crazy for getting out in these -1degree temperatures and snapping a few shots!!
